Project for the Enforcement of the Fauna Law in Africa

Illegal wildlife trade is the 4th largest illicit trade in the world, with estimated profits of $ 19 billion per year. The current UN Secretary General has described the fight against this trafficking as an issue for the protection of the environment and the cultural heritage of many countries, but also of security, stability and the economy.

The founders of the Eco Activists for Governance & Law Enforcement, (EAGLE), activist network, developed a model for wildlife law enforcement in Africa.

With 13 years of experience, EAGLE is now active in 10 African countries (Benin, Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Guinea, Kenya, Uganda, Central African Republic, Senegal and Togo) and has already enabled the arrest of more 1,000 traffickers, the majority of whom were sentenced to prison terms.

This project proposes to continue the activities of the members of the network in 7 countries (Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Senegal, Guinea, Togo, Benin) and to allow activities to start in two additional countries chosen from the DRC, Chad, Nigeria. , Burkina, Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana. The selection criteria are the importance of the country related to wildlife trafficking but also the responsiveness of the authorities and partners (civil society, embassies).
